Lesson 01 : Intoduction to Vedic Astrology...

Look at the sky at evening...

We will see stars scattered all around the sky...
If we observe daily, we will notice some particular star patterns...
Later we notice that these patterns are not stand still, but they are moving from east to west direction... as Earth revolves around its own axis...

We can also see Moon... slowly increasing and decreasing in its size...

We can also see, sometimes, clearly with naked eye, the planets Venus and Jupiter...

They always try to tell something to us...

If somebody observe the Moon at a seashore, at evenings daily (say for 30 days)... we will notice that the size of waves of the sea gradually increasing and decreasing according to the size of visible Moon in the sky... forming a peak on the full moon day... and vice versa...

Is there any link to Moon and waves of the sea...?!!

Saints started observing the sky and the corresponding actions on the Earth... they learned slowly that every event on earth is someway related to the motions of the planets and stars in the sky...

They observed that when Jupiter was transiting along certain group of stars (Signs) during that year plenty of rainfall was the result...

They wanted to have a systematic division of the entire zodiac of 360 degrees..

Zodiac is a plane consisting of the Sun and Earth as some points on it..

Slowly, they tried to divide the entire Zodiac into 12 signs, each consisting of 30 degrees...

They named these signs, according to the patterns formed by the group of stars in that sign...

12 signs are named as:

Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo,
Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces...

Now that Saints divided the entire Zodiac into 12 parts, they started studying the results when some planet is transiting, some particular sign of the zodiac...

Saints considered that the earth is the center for entire Universe and remaining bodies are revolving around the Earth... They fixed the positions of the Signs as mentioned above and tried to concentrate on the planetary movements and their corresponding results on the earth...

They used the sky as a Computer Monitor and observed for thousands of years... recording the results as manuscripts from generations to generations...

Saints were able to see 7 planets, (with psychic abilities)

Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn...

Yes, they considered Moon and Sun as planets...
Saints called these planets as "Graha" 's...

How did they differentiate planets and signs...?
One differentiation is that planets move and signs are fixed...
But how did they realize that planets are moving ?... what is the reference ?
Obviously the fixed signs are the reference... planets are moving with reference to fixed signs...

Now we have known about 12 fixed signs and 7 planets...

Moon is the fastest moving planet transiting one Sign at the rate of roughly two and a quarter days... Saturn is the slowest planet which covers one Sign in two and half years...

Doubts, suggestions, comments are necessary for healthy discussion...

Contd...

Regards.
